ਪਿਛਲੇ ਦੋ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੀਲਾਮੇਡੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਮੈਟ੍ਰਿਕ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ 21 ਕਿੰਡਰਗਾਰਟਨ (ਕੇਜੀ) ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਇਰਲ ਇਨਫੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਕਥਾਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਾਅ ਤੇਜ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ। ਰੋਗ ਫੈਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਕੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਸੰਕਰਮਣ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ 12 ਮਾਰਚ ਤੱਕ ਛੁੱਟੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਤਾਮਿਲਨਾਡੂ ਦੇ ਸਿਹਤ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੇ ਕੋਇੰਬਟੂਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਨ ਪੇੜੇ (mumps) ਦੇ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਧੇ ਦੇ ਮੱਦੇਨਜ਼ਰ ਹਾਈ ਅਲਰਟ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਖਸਰਾ, ਕੰਨ ਪੇੜੇ ਜਾਂ ਚਿਕਨਪੌਕਸ ਦੇ ਲੱਛਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕੀ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾਕਟਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲੈਣ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਪਿਛਲੇ ਦੋ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੀਲਾਮੇਡੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਮੈਟ੍ਰਿਕ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ 21 ਕਿੰਡਰਗਾਰਟਨ (ਕੇਜੀ) ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਇਰਲ ਇਨਫੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਰੋਕਥਾਮ ਦੇ ਉਪਾਅ ਤੇਜ਼ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ। ਰੋਗ ਫੈਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸਕੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਨੇ ਹੋਰ ਸੰਕਰਮਣ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ 12 ਮਾਰਚ ਤੱਕ ਛੁੱਟੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
ਕੋਇੰਬਟੂਰ ਸਿਟੀ ਮਿਉਂਸਪਲ ਕਾਰਪੋਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਸਿਹਤ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਦੋ ਦਿਨ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੇਜੀ ਦੇ 13 ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਛਣ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸਨ। ਸਕੂਲ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਫੈਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਰੋਕਣ ਲਈ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਸਿਹਤ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਘਬਰਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਖਸਰਾ, ਕੰਨ ਪੇੜੇ ਜਾਂ ਚਿਕਨਪੌਕਸ ਦੇ ਲੱਛਣਾਂ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕੀ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾਕਟਰੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲੈਣ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਛੂਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਾਇਰਲ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਮੁੱਖ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਕਿਸ਼ੋਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਲਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਸੰਕਰਮਿਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਇਹ ਆਮ ਤੌਰ ਉਤੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਜਾਂ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਪਾਸੇ ਪੈਰੋਟਿਡ ਲਾਰ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੋਜ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਦਰਦ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਅਰਾਮੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਲੱਛਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੁਖਾਰ, ਸਿਰ ਦਰਦ, ਮਾਸਪੇਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਰਦ, ਚਬਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਅਤੇ ਥਕਾਵਟ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ। ਵਾਇਰਸ ਖੰਘਣ ਜਾਂ ਛਿੱਕਣ ਨਾਲ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਬੂੰਦਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਫੈਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੰਕਰਮਿਤ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਸੀਮਤ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਢੁਕਵਾਂ ਆਰਾਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਠੀਕ ਹੋਣ ਤੱਕ ਹਾਈਡਰੇਟ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

Authorities have stepped up surveillance and containment measures after 21 kindergarten (KG) students of a matriculation school in Peelamedu tested positive for the virus in the last two days. The school administration has declared holidays till March 12 to prevent further spread of the disease.
The Tamil Nadu health department has sounded a high alert in Coimbatore in view of the increase in mumps cases among children. Those with symptoms of measles, mumps or chickenpox have been advised to seek medical attention at the nearest government hospital immediately. Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation health officials said that 13 KG students showed symptoms two days ago. The school management immediately sent them home to prevent the spread of the disease. Health department officials have assured the public that there is no need to panic.
However, those with symptoms of measles, mumps or chickenpox have been advised to immediately seek medical attention at the nearest government hospital. It is a highly contagious viral disease that mainly affects children, but it can also infect adolescents and adults.
It usually causes swelling of the parotid salivary glands on one or both sides of the face, causing pain and discomfort. Other symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, difficulty chewing and fatigue. The virus spreads through droplets produced by coughing or sneezing. Infected individuals should limit contact with others, get adequate rest and stay hydrated until they recover.
While mumps is generally considered a mild, self-limiting disease, it can cause complications. A study conducted by the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Public Health (DPH) using data from the Integrated Health Information Portal (IHIP) under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) has highlighted an alarming increase in mumps cases across the state.
