 ਤਿੰਨ ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਕਾਂਸਟੇਬਲ ਤੋਂ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹਰ ਬਣੀ ਸੀ।’ ਮੈਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਖੁਸ਼ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਡੇਢ ਸਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਇਸ ਦੈਂਤ (ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਸੁਪਰਡੈਂਟ ਉਮੇਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ) ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨਰਕ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।

 ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਉਹ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਮਹਿਲਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।’ ਵਾਰਾਣਸੀ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਦੀ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹਰ ਮੀਨਾ ਕਨੌਜੀਆ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕਹਿਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਰੋਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਮੀਨਾ ਕਨੌਜੀਆ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਸੁਪਰਡੈਂਟ ਉਮੇਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੱਪੜਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਕਾਰਨਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਛੇੜਦੇ ਸਨ ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਬੁਲਾਉਣ ‘ਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੱਦ ਪਾਰ ਕਰ ਗਿਆ।

ਡਿਪਟੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹਰ ਮੀਨਾ ਕਨੌਜੀਆ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਰਿਵਾ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਖ਼ਤਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਹਿੰਮਤ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਦਰਦ ਸਾਂਝਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਮਾਣਯੋਗ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਯੋਗੀ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਦਿਵਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ।

 ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਉਮੇਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਕੁਝ ਬੋਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੀ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹਰ ਰਤਨ ਪ੍ਰਿਆ ਨੇ ਉਮੇਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ‘ਤੇ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗਾਏ ਸਨ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

ਡਿਪਟੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਮੇਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸੇਵਾਮੁਕਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਹ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਲੜੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਫਿਰ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵੀ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਪੇਸ਼ ਆਵਾਂਗਾ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਇਹ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਗਾਏ ਹਨ। ਸਰਕਾਰ, ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੈੱਡਕੁਆਰਟਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਣਗੇ।

ਡਿਪਟੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹਰ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਸੁਪਰਡੈਂਟ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕੇਗਾ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਵਧ ਗਈ। ਮੈਂ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਸੁਪਰਡੈਂਟ ਉਮੇਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ) ਦੋਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਥੋਂ ਕਿਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਤਬਾਦਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ।

ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਹਨ, ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦਾ ਨਾਅਰਾ ‘ਬੇਟੀ ਬਚਾਓ, ਬੇਟੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਓ’ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਉਮੇਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਹੈ, ਮਹਿਲਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਵੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਖ਼ਬਰ ਲਿਖੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੱਕ, ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਡਿਪਟੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹਰ ਮੀਨਾ ਕਨੌਜੀਆ ਦਾ ਨੈਨੀ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਬਾਦਲਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਵੱਧ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਦੇਖਣਾ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਸੁਪਰਡੈਂਟ ‘ਤੇ ਕੀ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Three years ago, I was promoted from a constable to a deputy jailer, and I was extremely happy. However, for the last one and a half years, my life has been nothing short of a nightmare due to the actions of Jail Superintendent Umesh Singh. Meena Kanojia, the Deputy Jailer of Varanasi District Jail, broke down in tears as she shared her ordeal. She claimed that Umesh Singh would often make inappropriate remarks about her clothes and other personal matters. When she rejected his invitation to his house, his behavior crossed a dangerous line.

Kanojia expressed growing fears for her safety and that of her family, stating that she now feels their lives are in danger. She gathered the courage to speak out and through the media, appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for justice. Kanojia explained that all senior officers are too frightened to speak against Umesh Singh, which has allowed his misconduct to continue unchecked. She pointed out that earlier, Deputy Jailer Ratan Priya had made similar allegations, but no action was taken in that case either.

Meena Kanojia revealed that Umesh Singh boasts about his plans after retirement, claiming he will contest elections and become the jail minister, at which point he will seek revenge on those who have accused him, as he believes the government and administration will not intervene. 

She said that as long as Umesh Singh remains in the jail, she will never be able to do her job effectively and the environment for female officers will remain unsafe. Kanojia called on the government to transfer both herself and Umesh Singh out of the jail for the sake of justice and safety. She also criticized the government’s slogan "Save the daughter, educate the daughter," arguing that it would remain meaningless as long as Umesh Singh is in position, as women officers and employees are not safe under his command.

By the time the news was reported, it was confirmed that Deputy Jailer Meena Kanojia had been transferred to Naini District Jail. The issue has sparked further attention, and it remains to be seen what action, if any, the administration will take against Jail Superintendent Umesh Singh.
