ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰਨਾਟਕ ਦੇ ਬੇਲਗਾਵੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਰਨਾਟਕ ਸਟੇਟ ਰੋਡ ਟ੍ਰਾਂਸਪੋਰਟ ਕਾਰਪੋਰੇਸ਼ਨ (KSRTC) ਦੇ ਬੱਸ ਕੰਡਕਟਰ ਅਤੇ ਡਰਾਈਵਰ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ-ਬਾਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਦੁਰਵਿਵਹਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਰਾਠੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਠਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਰਾਜ਼ਗੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਘਟਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਵਟਲ ਨਾਗਰਾਜ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ 22 ਮਾਰਚ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਨਾਟਕ ਬੰਦ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮਕਸਦ ਸਰਕਾਰ 'ਤੇ ਦਬਾਅ ਪਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਕਦਮ ਉਠਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਨ-ਚੈਨ ਬਰਕਰਾਰ ਰੱਖੇ।
ਬੰਗਲੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੰਗਲਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਹੋਈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ ਬੰਦ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੈਅ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ 22 ਮਾਰਚ ਨੂੰ, ਸਵੇਰੇ 6 ਵਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਾਮ 6 ਵਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਕਰਨਾਟਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਦ ਰਹੇਗਾ।
ਵਟਲ ਨਾਗਰਾਜ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਲੋਕ ਵਾਹਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਰਤਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਵੇਰੇ 10:30 ਵਜੇ ਟਾਊਨ ਹਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਫ੍ਰੀਡਮ ਪਾਰਕ ਤੱਕ ਮਾਰਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ ਲਈ ਮੈਟਰੋ ਜਾਂ ਬੱਸਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੜੇ ਹੋਣ।

ਵਟਲ ਨਾਗਰਾਜ ਨੇ ਟਰਾਂਸਪੋਰਟ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਰਾਮਲਿੰਗਾ ਰੈਡੀ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦਿਨ ਬੱਸਾਂ ਨਾ ਚਲਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਣ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਜਾਂ ਵਾਹਨ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਦੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੇ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਬੇਲਗਾਵੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਛੋਟੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਸਾਡੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਅਤੇ ਗੌਰਵ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਹੈ।

Recently, in Belagavi, Karnataka, a disturbing incident occurred where some individuals misbehaved and even physically assaulted the bus conductor and driver of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). As a result, the Maratha community was blamed, leading to widespread anger among the people. In response to this, the Kannadiga community, under the leadership of Vatal Nagaraj, called for a statewide bandh on March 22. The purpose of this bandh is to pressure the government into taking strict action against those responsible and to prevent such incidents from happening again.
On Tuesday, a meeting was held in Bengaluru led by Vatal Nagaraj to discuss the bandh, where it was decided that the protest would be observed from 6 AM to 6 PM on March 22. During this time, no public transport, including buses and metros, would operate. The protestors also planned a march from Town Hall to Freedom Park at 10:30 AM that day. They urged people to refrain from using any vehicles for their personal convenience, to show respect for the community and the state.
Nagaraj further clarified that the Transport Minister, R. Ramalinga Reddy, had been informed of the decision, and it was requested that no buses be operated that day, including those used by ministers or the Chief Minister. He emphasized that this was not a small issue, despite the Belagavi incident seeming minor, as it was closely tied to the dignity and honor of the Kannadiga people.
The bandh aims to unite people across the state in a collective stand, urging the government and law enforcement to take decisive actions and uphold peace and unity. It highlights the need for a swift resolution and accountability for those involved in such violent acts. The movement is a call for justice and to prevent similar incidents from tarnishing the state’s image and creating division between communities.
