ਮਾਸੀਥੋਕਜ਼ੇ ਮੋਯੋ ਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਔਰਤ ਨਾਲ ਜੋ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਜੀਬ ਸੀ। 45 ਸਾਲਾ ਮੋਯੋ ਇੰਗਲੈਂਡ ਦੇ ਕਿਡਰਮਿੰਸਟਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਉਸਦੇ ਕ੍ਰੈਡਿਟ ਕਾਰਡ ਨੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਹਿਕਾਰੀ ਬੈਂਕ ਨੂੰ ਫੋਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਮਿਲੀ, ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਸਦਮੇ ਤੋਂ ਘੱਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਬੈਂਕ ਨੇ ਮੋਯੋ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਮਰ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ। ਬੈਂਕ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ ਨੰਬਰ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਾਸਪੋਰਟ ਅਤੇ ਡਰਾਈਵਿੰਗ ਲਾਇਸੈਂਸ ਵੀ ਰੱਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਸੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਢਵਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਉਧਾਰ ਲੈ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ।

ਦਰਅਸਲ 5 ਫਰਵਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬੈਂਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟ ਡੈਬਿਟ ਰੱਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਭੇਜੀ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਤਾਂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਏਜੰਟ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੀ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਅਜਿਹੇ ‘ਚ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੇਪਰਾਂ ‘ਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਐਲਾਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਠੀਕ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਲ 16 ਦਿਨ ਲੱਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ 21 ਫਰਵਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਾਤੇ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕਰ ਸਕੀ। ਹੁਣ ਮੋਯੋ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ‘ਚ ਬੈਂਕ ‘ਤੇ 50 ਲੱਖ ਪੌਂਡ ਯਾਨੀ 56 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦਾ ਮੁਆਵਜ਼ਾ ਲਗਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਬੈਂਕ ‘ਤੇ ਮਾਣਹਾਨੀ, ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਲਾਏ ਹਨ। ਬੈਂਕ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਮੁਆਫ਼ੀ ਮੰਗੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੁਆਵਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ।

What happened to Masithokoze Moyo is truly bizarre. A 45-year-old woman living in Kidderminster, England, found that one day her credit card stopped working. When she reached out to her bank for assistance, the information they gave her was utterly shocking. They informed her that she was dead and even provided her with a death certificate number. As a result, her passport and driver’s license were canceled, and she couldn’t access her funds. She had to borrow money from her neighbors.

A small error snowballed into a major issue. On February 5, Moyo had requested the cancellation of her direct debit. While this request was processed, the bank agent mistakenly recorded the reason as her death. Consequently, Moyo was declared dead in all her official records. It took her 16 days to correct the mistake and regain access to her account on February 21. Now, Moyo is seeking a compensation of 5 million pounds (about Rs 56 crore) from the bank, accusing them of defamation, life-threatening behavior, and causing mental distress. The bank has only issued an apology so far and has yet to offer any compensation.
