 ਕਰਨਾਟਕ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਰੈਗੂਲੇਟਰੀ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ (ਕੇਈਆਰਸੀ) ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਝਟਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਹਿੰਗਾਈ ਹੋਰ ਵਧੇਗੀ।

 ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੇ 1 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 36 ਪੈਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਯੂਨਿਟ ਦਾ ਵਾਧਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਕੇਈਆਰਸੀ ਦੇ ਤਾਜ਼ਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਇਹ ਵਾਧਾ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਟਰਾਂਸਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਖਰਚਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ESCOM ਕਰਮਚਾਰੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੈਨਸ਼ਨ ਤੇ ਗ੍ਰੈਚੁਟੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਟੈਰਿਫ ਸੋਧ ‘ਤੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੰਦਿਆਂ, ਕਰਨਾਟਕ ਦੇ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਪਾਟਿਲ ਨੇ ਸਾਫ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਵਾਧੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਟੀਵੀ9 ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ‘ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਜਯੋਤੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ’, ਜੋ 200 ਯੂਨਿਟ ਮੁਫਤ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਇਹ ਵਾਧਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਲਾਗੂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਜੋ 200 ਯੂਨਿਟ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ। ਭਾਰਤੀ ਜਨਤਾ ਪਾਰਟੀ (ਭਾਜਪਾ) ਅਮੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਰਮਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਦਰਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਧਾਈਆਂ, ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕੇਈਆਰਸੀ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੇ ਇਲਜ਼ਾਮ ਗਲਤ ਹਨ।”

ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਧਿਰ ਭਾਜਪਾ ਨੇ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਧੇ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸੱਤਾਧਾਰੀ ਕਾਂਗਰਸ ‘ਤੇ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਭਾਜਪਾ ਦੇ ਸੂਬਾ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਬੀ.ਵਾਈ. ਵਿਜੇਂਦਰ ਨੇ ਰਾਜ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੀ ਤਿੱਖੀ ਆਲੋਚਨਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰਨਾਟਕ ‘ਤੇ ਮਹਿੰਗਾਈ ਦਾ ਬੋਝ ਭਾਰੀ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ, “ਸਰਕਾਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਖਰਚੇ ਵਧਾਉਣ ‘ਤੇ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਹ ਮੁਫਤ ਬਿਜਲੀ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਫਿਰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਵਧੀਆਂ ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੋਝ ਪਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। 

ਪੀਡਬਲਯੂਡੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਕੋਲ 8,000 ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੇ ਬਿੱਲ ਬਕਾਇਆ ਪਏ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵਿੱਤੀ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੂਝ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੁੱਕਾਂਗੇ।”

The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has dealt another blow to the state's residents by announcing a 36 paise per unit hike in electricity tariffs, effective from April 1. The new tariff increase aims to cover the pension and gratuity expenses for employees in electricity transmission and ESCOM sectors. Responding to the hike, Karnataka Minister Sharan Prakash Patil assured that it would not affect ordinary citizens. Speaking to TV9, he clarified that the rise in rates would only apply to consumers using more than 200 units of electricity, and emphasized that the "Grah Jyoti Yojana," which provides 200 units of free electricity, would remain unaffected.

Patil also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misleading the public by claiming that the hike benefits the wealthy. He stated that it was KERC, not the government, that implemented the rate increase, dismissing the BJP's criticisms as unfounded.

The opposition BJP, led by state president B.Y. Vijayendra, has strongly condemned the government over the price hike. Vijayendra criticized the state administration, stating that the people of Karnataka were bearing the brunt of rising costs under the current government. He pointed out the contradiction between the government's promises of free electricity and the increased financial burden on the public. Additionally, he highlighted the state’s pending dues of Rs 8,000 crore in the Public Works Department (PWD) and financial struggles in other departments, asserting that the issue would be raised in the upcoming Assembly session.
